The final day of the 69F Youth Foiling Gold Cup Grand Final 2023, a highly anticipated competition among the best eight Under 25 teams of the 2023 season, proved to be an exciting culmination of a brilliant season.
Hosted by Marina Vela Barcelona and organized by 69F and Club Nàutic Vilassar de Mar, this event showcased the skills and determination of young sailors who demonstrated their talent throughout the season on the state-of-the-art one-design foiling monohulls for crews.
Our trio of CJ Perez, Jann Schupbach, and Lukas Hesse demonstrated exceptional sailing ability, securing the second spot, firmly planting their feet on the podium of this year's circuit.
The 69F Youth Foiling Gold Cup Grand Final is not just a testament to the sailing abilities of the next generation but also a celebration of their dedication to the sport and another step closer to their professional career in sailing.

You can imagine how incredibly proud, pleased and excited we are.
In just January of this year, we launched our Clean Sailors Youth Racing Team - THE champion youth team with a heart for our ocean.
Our sailors CJ Perez (18), Jann Schüpbach (21) and Lukas Hesse (23) met in person just a month later, as individual champions: they have never trained together before, they had never sailed together before, they had never raced together before.
A week later, CJ, Jann and Lukas left as the true definition of Team, and have gone on to win the Bacardi Cup Invitational Regatta and have pushed through four acts of the Gold Cup circuit.
This week, they took third place on the podium, guaranteeing their attendance at the Grand Final in November.
It's been a mammoth 8 months, and there is more to come.
For now, huge thanks to our Clean Sailors Youth Racing Team sponsors, and to 69F for the awesome boat, events, logistics and media - we'll be back shortly for the big finale! 👊 💪

]]>The golden rule when spending time in the sun is to cover-up and sunscreen-up. These tips are generally the best when it comes to protecting our skin from potentially harmful UVA and UVB rays and the secondary health impacts they may cause, such as skin cancer.
These tips are now well-known. Perhaps less known is the harmful effect that our sunscreen has on our marine environment, and on us. Sunscreen is traditionally made up of a variety of substances and chemical filters which are geared to reflect, scatter or absorb UV light and whilst sunscreen is helpful in protecting our skin against the sun, but it isn’t a natural substance nor native to our ocean environments.
According to research up to 14,000 tonnes of sunscreen ended up on coral reefs across the world every year, affecting marine life right down to their DNA, causing abnormal skeleton growth, birth defects, decreased fertility and decreased reproduction, change in biological sex characteristics (i.e. female characteristics in male fish) and where toxicity levels are high, even death.
True to form, Clean Sailors wants to play a role in identifying opportunities for sailors and our sailing industry to help improve the health of our waters, by providing ideas, answers and products that make sailing cleaner.
As the first step in this journey, Himaya and Clean Sailors will be working on a short educational series for sailors and the wider marine industry on sunscreen and the impact on our waters, including top ways to protect ourselves over the warmer months.
“It is great to see how the world has changed and started to pay attention to the issue we have created in our oceans. Himaya has been pioneering ocean-friendly sunscreen in the surf market for 20 years now and we are really happy to partner with Clean Sailors to further the cause and educate even more ocean users. It is amazing to see how Clean Sailors is bring this new mindset into the sailing community and as we have the same goals it makes sense to join forces to further the cause” says Stuart Knowles, founder of Himaya.
Holly Manvell, Clean Sailors Youth Racing Team Manager says “With major sunscreen brands recently recalled under suspicion of containing cancer-causing chemicals, for at least the second year running, it has never been more important to support and promote those pioneers and thinkers genuinely producing better products for our welfare and for that of our oceans, too. Team Himaya truly scrutinises every decision, ingredient and material to ensure optimum performance in sport and an all-natural product. Their commitment to improvement and self-scrutiny keeps them at the fore of being and remaining the original ocean-safe sunscreen. Our Youth Racing Team love to use this sunscreen. Welcome, Himaya!”

About 878 Co
878 is a high-performance clothes brand founded on visionary thinking, design and technology. Built on numbers.
We import materials from the future to design and manufacture new empowering clothes for land, sea and air. Our sailing gear are made of Graphene and Dyneema. Tested outside the laboratory. Life-proof and ready for the journey.
WHO ARE WE?
We are like you. Fashion does not define us. We want our apparel to reflect the changes of the world. For industrial revolution is more than digitization: a wave of new ideas has reached the shores of the textile industry too.
New knowledge creates new materials, like graphene and dyneema. Wearable innovations that can enhance your performance when trying to weather the storm. At ‘878 we are urban sailors exploring new horizons with respect for our environment.
THE BRAND
Our brand name is a tribute. A salute to one of the greatest innovators of the clothing industry in Central Europe. Leo Goldberger’s inspiring story started in 1878 and was violently interrupted in 1945. But there are threads that never break. As Goldberger’s spiritual heirs we strive to revive his legacy.
878 is a high-performance clothing brand founded on visionary thinking, design and technology. Built on numbers. For numbers never lie.
THE PRODUCT
At 878 we import materials from the future to design and manufacture new empowering clothing for land, sea and air. The Project 01 in-shore sailing jacket and overall is our first fleeter. It is made of graphene and dyneema. Tested outside the laboratory. Lifeproof and ready for the journey.
Material:
All our smart performance gear is enhanced with graphene, a marvelous Nobel Prize awarded material. Graphene is not only the lightest, strongest and most flexible material the textile industry has ever invented, it also provides unique thermal features, allowing a balanced distribution of the heat produced by human body in the cold and getting rid of it when you are exposed to the sun.
Design:
Each 878 smart performance product has a 4D design. We sketch our garments with the latest 3D technology and due to our unique tailoring techniques and innovative heavy-duty materials they are finally extended to a 4th dimension. Time.
But it isn’t just the almost invisible inner design that makes our apparel timeless and lasting; it is the noticeable outer design too.
We work with young designers from all over Central-Europe to allow the sailing community’s requirements, industry innovations, and style to take shape in one product: like the P1 in-shore, off-shore sailing jacket.
Technology:
Graphene is for engineers what the sea is for sailors: a natural habitat.
The conductive smart textiles produced from this versatile material are ideal platforms to combine technology with fashion, digital solutions with sport, and computing capacity with human ingenuity. All of the gear we manufacture is embedded with technology. In-built sensors monitor the body’s actual condition and foldable screens gather data from the external environment: the wind, the air, the water, and all your smart metering tools from your phone to your ship’s navigation system.
For the urban sailor accessories are not fashion items, but wearable tech solutions helping to boost their performance.
Digital manufacturing:
When you import materials from the future and build cutting edge technology into your garments, you need special machinery. That is why we set up our own laboratory and factory in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, where the carefully selected graphene-enhanced materials are designed and made into smart performance clothing by our team of dedicated 878 professionals.
Due to our fully digitised and computer-controlled manufacturing capabilities we can proudly call ourselves a zero-waste company.
This means that with 878 gears you cannot only travel the world and the seven seas: you can help to preserve them.
