Clean Sailors Youth Racing Team is excited to announce that 878.co joins them as their first partner.

878 Co has joined Clean Sailors Youth Racing Team as first their Partner, providing technical gear for the champion sailors.

The Clean Sailors Youth Racing Team was launched in January 2022 by Clean Sailors and their three champion sailing ambassadors; CJ Perez (18), Lukas Hesse (22) and Jann Schüpbach (21). It will see the young champions compete together at the very highest standard of foiling with a mission for cleaner, healthier seas and a cleaner sailing industry.

Through this initiative, Lukas, CJ, Jann and Clean Sailors aim to inspire and encourage as many fellow sailors as possible to become active ambassadors for the protection and conservation of our oceans.

Matthieu Manfaing, professional sailor and 878 Director says: “At 878 we prioritise the durability of our products, to build lasting products - even if this has an impact on the price and the sales. We have a responsibility to build a better world and to make our planet cleaner. While we are 878 Co, we are also Clean Sailors.’’

Holly Manvell, Founder of Clean Sailors commented: "Working with partners who share our vision, drive and action for a cleaner, healthier environment is what helps us as Clean Sailors create lasting change. We are super excited to have a partner and friend in 878 Co - a company as old as Clean Sailors is young. We have no legacy to undo or baggage to uphold, just the opportunity to create, together, a cleaner future for our industry. A big thanks to 878 for joining us!’’

Launched in July 2020, Clean Sailors’ mission is to set a new standard of cleaner sailing within the global sailing community. Their work includes campaigning for legislation to better protect our oceans, education, advice and outreach on conservation opportunities within the sailing and marine communities, and sharing scientific research on issues facing our global waters.

In July 2021, Clean Sailors launched Cleaner Marina with industry partners including boatfolk, MDL Marinas, savvy navvy and Ecoworks Marine, to encourage better, cleaner standards across marinas, ports and harbours, globally.

The Crew's aim is to make an ocean ambassador of each and every sailor around the world.

Clean Sailors counts Henri-Lloyd, the Ocean Cruising Club, Borrow A Boat, Finsulate and Ecoworks Marine amongst it’s early supporters.

In July 2021, Clean Sailors launched Cleaner Marina with industry partners including boatfolk, MDL Marinas, savvy navvy and Ecoworks Marine, to encourage better, cleaner standards across marinas, ports and harbours, globally. Cleaner Marina already has over 30 marina partners, globally.

The Clean Sailors Youth Racing Team was launched in January 2022 with three young champion sailors; CJ Perez (18), Lukas Hesse (22) and Jann Schüpbach (21).

Lukas Hesse (22), was named German Champion in 2020, and has a background in 29er and 49er dinghies, more recently having transitioned to WASZP and 69F boats to realise his dream of racing foils.

At just 18 years old, CJ Perez recently won the 2021 US National Championships in the WASZP class, and has been selected to join the United States SailGp Team - at 18 years old she is the youngest sailor ever to join the SailGP league, and the first ever latina.

And, after Olympic campaigns in the 470 Dinghy, plus national and international podium stands, Jann Schüpbach (21) is preparing for the WASZP European and World Championships, alongside the Clean Sailors Youth Racing Team’s 2022 Gold Cup journey.

Through the Clean Sailors Youth Racing Team, Lukas, CJ, Jann and Clean Sailors aim to inspire and encourage as many fellow sailors as possible to become active ambassadors for the protection of our oceans.

About 878 Co

878 is a high-performance clothes brand founded on visionary thinking, design and technology. Built on numbers.

We import materials from the future to design and manufacture new empowering clothes for land, sea and air. Our sailing gear are made of Graphene and Dyneema. Tested outside the laboratory. Life-proof and ready for the journey.

WHO ARE WE?

We are like you. Fashion does not define us. We want our apparel to reflect the changes of the world. For industrial revolution is more than digitization: a wave of new ideas has reached the shores of the textile industry too.

New knowledge creates new materials, like graphene and dyneema. Wearable innovations that can enhance your performance when trying to weather the storm. At ‘878 we are urban sailors exploring new horizons with respect for our environment.

THE BRAND

Our brand name is a tribute. A salute to one of the greatest innovators of the clothing industry in Central Europe. Leo Goldberger’s inspiring story started in 1878 and was violently interrupted in 1945. But there are threads that never break. As Goldberger’s spiritual heirs we strive to revive his legacy.

878 is a high-performance clothing brand founded on visionary thinking, design and technology. Built on numbers. For numbers never lie.

THE PRODUCT

At 878 we import materials from the future to design and manufacture new empowering clothing for land, sea and air. The Project 01 in-shore sailing jacket and overall is our first fleeter. It is made of graphene and dyneema. Tested outside the laboratory. Lifeproof and ready for the journey.

Material:

All our smart performance gear is enhanced with graphene, a marvelous Nobel Prize awarded material. Graphene is not only the lightest, strongest and most flexible material the textile industry has ever invented, it also provides unique thermal features, allowing a balanced distribution of the heat produced by human body in the cold and getting rid of it when you are exposed to the sun.

  • Thermal conductive -> Graphene
  • Super Strong -> Dyneema Layers
  • Hydrophobic -> Nano coating

Design:

Each 878 smart performance product has a 4D design. We sketch our garments with the latest 3D technology and due to our unique tailoring techniques and innovative heavy-duty materials they are finally extended to a 4th dimension. Time.

But it isn’t just the almost invisible inner design that makes our apparel timeless and lasting; it is the noticeable outer design too.

We work with young designers from all over Central-Europe to allow the sailing community’s requirements, industry innovations, and style to take shape in one product: like the P1 in-shore, off-shore sailing jacket.

  • Made to measure 4D designs
  • 50 years product lifetime
  • Zero-waste approach
  • 100% design-proof apparel

Technology:

Graphene is for engineers what the sea is for sailors: a natural habitat.

The conductive smart textiles produced from this versatile material are ideal platforms to combine technology with fashion, digital solutions with sport, and computing capacity with human ingenuity. All of the gear we manufacture is embedded with technology. In-built sensors monitor the body’s actual condition and foldable screens gather data from the external environment: the wind, the air, the water, and all your smart metering tools from your phone to your ship’s navigation system.

For the urban sailor accessories are not fashion items, but wearable tech solutions helping to boost their performance.

  • 3D printed custom details
  • Built in sensors
  • Integrated foldable screen
  • Protecting insertion

Digital manufacturing:

When you import materials from the future and build cutting edge technology into your garments, you need special machinery. That is why we set up our own laboratory and factory in Székesfehérvár, Hungary, where the carefully selected graphene-enhanced materials are designed and made into smart performance clothing by our team of dedicated 878 professionals.

Due to our fully digitised and computer-controlled manufacturing capabilities we can proudly call ourselves a zero-waste company.

This means that with 878 gears you cannot only travel the world and the seven seas: you can help to preserve them.

  • Computer controlled Manufacturing
  • High-performance Machinery
  • 3D scanning technology
  • Built to last
